attend events
For each event attended, you will receive extra credit points for the final course grade.
This will be added to your participation in the class. Below is an explanation, but always ask Prof. Nikki if you have questions.
WHAT COUNTS?
Activities could include:
HOW TO TURN IN FOR EXTRA CREDIT:
The easiest thing to do is to take photos from the event, like a selfie of you at the event. Then Slack Direct Message Prof. Nikki with the information. She'll reply letting you know she's put the information in a folder she created for you this semester.
WHAT IS THE PERCENTAGE POINTS PER EXTRA CREDIT POINTS?
There isn't really any kind of math to this. The more you do, the more it helps. The extra effort at participating in the art/design world (which you should be doing anyway) helps push your grade up a little bit when needed.
For example: you have 89% (= a B+), extra credit could push you to a 90% (= A-). When turning in course grades, there are no +'s or -'s, so you just turned your B to an A for the class.
IF I'M IN MULTIPLE CLASSES OF PROF. NIKKI'S, WHERE DOES THE EXTRA CREDIT WORK?
Just let Prof. Nikki know which one you think you'd want. If you don't, she'll add it to where it's most needed when course grades are figured out.
WHEN IS ALL OF THIS DUE?
It is suggested you turn things in as they occur during the year so you don't forget. Prof. Nikki will stop accepting any extra credit the last day of scheduled class before the class's final. *Please note: nothing AFTER the last minute of your class. Nothing later in the day.
For example, for Fall 2023, she will accept nothing after your class ends on Thursday, December 7th. This is the last day of class. The next time the class meets is for the scheduled final.

WHAT COUNTS?
Activities could include:
- art openings at the Bradbury Art Museum or FAC Gallery
- an A-State seminar/lecture regarding art (guest artist talks or pretty much anything else that the department puts on!)
- a professional event (like any local AAF event like Lunch & Learn or the Annual Addy Awards)
- other activities include doing just about anything ART- or DESIGN- or ART HISTORY- related. Seriously. If you do something in another city, like go to an art museum, attend a gallery opening, etc., I'll count it.

enter juried competitions
Enter design competitions, juried exhibitions, or other art/communications/design-related exhibitions. This is worth the most extra credit as long as the competitions are viable and résumé-worthy.
STEP 1: You must e-mail me ([email protected]) at least a paragraph explaining why you believe this competition is worthwhile and applicable to your line of study in graphic design. Include links to the site or copy/paste the information in the e-mail.
STEP 2: Save tickets or other collateral from the event and/or take a screenshot of the screen or photo with your phone. Label the file something with your last name on it and Direct Message me with it. If you have already entered a competition this year (NEA Addy’s), then you are done after you provide the afore mentioned!
DUE by last day of scheduled class before final. But I highly suggest you do it ASAP!
COMPETITIONS: You can easily browse the Internet to find graphic design contests, but here are a few to get you started. I am unsure about timing on these shows, so see what you can find!:
