There is an active Northeast Arkansas chapter of American Advertising Federation in this area. This group extremely beneficial to be involved with in the Jonesboro area; however the student group is loosely based out of the College of Communication.
Prof. Arnell is a former board member for the regional club and is still in close contact with members. A-State professors Leslie Parker, Kim Vickrey, and Nikki Arnell have all served on the AAF-NEA board at some point and still have many connections with the group.
The AAF-NEA (northeast Arkansas) chapter has a monthly Lunch & Learn, which is a great place to network and learn things. It is highly recommended that art students enter the annual (Student) Regional Addys held in January. Prof. Vickrey and/or Parker often hold(s) instructional meetings to guide students through applying to the competition.
American Advertising Federation is a nationally recognized organization and there are many chapters in the country. Memphis is a different chapter than AAF-NEA because the Mississippi River is a dividing line (unlike AIGA).
FYI: Prof. Nikki has been invited by many chapters as a guest speaker (see her CV for more details). Locations include cities in Texas, Florida, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Arkansas. She has also been asked to judge the district Addys competition of the Lexington (Kentucky), Shreveport-Bossier (Louisiana), Pensacola (Florida), and Gulfport/Biloxi (Mississippi) chapters.
